Make the thesaurus and the dictionary your friends

When it comes to the exam, you probably started studying lots of new words. But you need to know what they mean before you start using them in your academic essays. Make the most out of the thesaurus and the dictionary together.

The thesaurus will tell you synonyms and other words that have a similar meaning to the word you looked up. Remember, words add value to your paper and it made you sound fancy. But fancy is not good when you don’t know what you’re talking about.

A visual thesaurus it’s just like a regular thesaurus, but this one also talks about the connections between the words. No matter the word you look up, you’ll get all the other words that are connected to it. Separate long sentences

After you wrote the entire essay, start reading it again and look for the sentences that are too long. Make those two sentences. Long sentences are often unclear, and it might be hard for the reader to follow your point. Don’t repeat words, and break that long sentence in two or three little sentences. Don’t forget to take a look at those sentences that are related to one another. If they seem to be talking about the same subject, you can combine them by using a semicolon (that’s ;).

Ask a native to read and edit your essay

If you don’t have such friends, you can ask someone who knows English better than you do. They will find the repetitive errors sooner than you would. If there’s one mistake that you constantly do, you need to pay attention to it in the future essays – avoid doing it ever again. Your friend should also take a look at the grammatical and spelling errors that you missed.
