The Environmental Center Sustainability Awards is a celebration of people who help shape communities that meet human needs equitably, live within our planet’s ecological limits and build a prosperous economy for all — without compromising the ability for future generations to do the same.
Are you a local change-maker who’s taking action, collaborating on solutions and supporting your peers to do the same? We want to hear from you. Individuals, businesses, organizations and other community-led projects and programs are all welcome to apply.
Applications are due on September 19, 2021. If you’re planning to nominate someone else, please do so by August 29, 2021. Details are available on our website at envirocenter.org/tec-events/sustainability-awards.
Staff spotlight: Katie Zieber joins our team as Communications Coordinator
We’re thrilled to welcome Katie Zieber (she/her) to The Environmental Center team in the role of Communications Coordinator. This is a brand new role for the organization, and one that we’ve been excited about adding for a long time. Katie will be crafting our newsletters, engaging with you on social media, providing resources via our website and more. Please help us welcome Katie to The Environmental Center and to Bend.

August Happy Hour in the Garden
Join us in the Kansas Avenue Learning Garden every Tuesday from 4-6pm for our weekly volunteer series. We’ll have a garden task list and tools ready to go — all you need to do is show up. Enjoy a refreshing bubbly beverage while you help us maintain this special place near downtown Bend. It’s a great way to connect with people and learn a thing or two about gardening.

It Takes a Village – Ending Homelessness in Bend — August 7, 7pm
Panelists will discuss solutions and ways for the public to get involved in being the villagers who include all residents in their consideration of livability here. Will include a screening of the independent film, Stories of Us: Camp Second Chance.
OLCV Virtual Town Hall with Senator Jeff Merkley — August 16, 4pm
Senator Merkley will discuss his vision for the future, provide an update on how things are going in Washington D.C. and answer audience questions.
Painting the Metolius: An Evening with Artist Shiela Dunn — August 20, 6pm
Shiela Dunn has created an original piece to commemorate the Metolius River Basin. This event will feature an auction for artwork, talk with the artist and live entertainment.
