Casablanca Hair Studio (formerly Impressions Hair Salon at 1245 SW Highland Ave, Redmond) has a new look, giving excitement to new owners Deanne Mundinger and Donna Evans and the stylist team. With the renovations showcasing new wood floors, cabinetry, stylist stations, store front furniture and a playful tie to the Casablanca movie, the studio has a classy, sophisticated look.
“I wanted our clients to come into a pleasant, comfortable atmosphere. Doing the interior decorating of the remodel was fun for me,” said Mundinger.
To come up with a name for a new business can be a challenge, as Mundinger and Evans went through hundreds of names. It was Mundinger’s husband who came up with the final name. Casablanca is one of his favorite movies and when Mundinger searched the name, she found some hair salons on the other side of the country named Casablanca but none in the Pacific Northwest. She also wanted a name that was gender neutral and something distinctive, not related the Cascades, the high desert or the mountain as many businesses out here are named after.
A previous business owner before, Mundinger enjoys the independence and creativity of being her own boss. Evans, although not a hair stylist, was asked to partner with Mundinger, bringing her expertise as a professional organizer. In this struggling economy, Mundinger believes you have to “step it up a notch.”
“Customers are looking for the best value for their money. We like to take the time with our clients, to understand and fulfill their needs the best we can,” said Mundinger.
She and her team of five stylists offer hair styling for the whole family and are involved with continuing education to stay current with today’s hair trends. Mundinger has attended classes and seminars in Milan, Italy at the BES hair color academy as well as locally and in the Pacific Northwest. After working in the corporate world, Mundinger is happy she made the career change to the beauty industry. She enjoys helping her clients to achieve style and to feel good about their appearance.
