As the final stages of construction on a new 41,625 square foot facility begins, Harmony House of Bend (located at 2366 NW Lakeside), known for its long-term skilled nursing services, is preparing to move to its new home at Bend Transitional Care (900 NE 27th Street) and transform to a short-term post-acute rehabilitation facility.
“We’re very excited to offer the people of Central Oregon a service that is designed to rehabilitate after a hospital stay to get patients back home and into the community doing the things they love,” says Cole Mack, administrator for both Harmony House and the still-under-construction Bend Transitional Care building. The conversion from long-term care to transitional care is a strategic decision, according to Mack. “We want to stay ahead of national healthcare trends that will put more emphasis on reduction of re-hospitalizations while promoting rehabilitation for a stronger and healthier population.”
The new facility is located just 800 yards away from St. Charles Medical Center, creating the opportunity for a continuity of care in the area that has not been seen before. According to Kim Games, RN, Director of Nursing, “This new location allows our skilled nurses and team of therapists to work even closer with the patient’s team of healthcare providers.” The new building boasts a 3,000 square foot rehabilitation gym, real-time access to critical patient information and door-to-door wheelchair transportation. Amenities include private rooms, a therapeutic spa, multi-media room, salon and restaurant-style dining.
Construction on Bend Transitional Care is slated to finish in the next few months, with the grand opening scheduled for August. During the construction phase, the project provided approximately 175 jobs for local contracting companies. Once its doors open, the facility will have approximately 75 employees – 30 more than the previous building.
