My great-grandpa “Doc” Stanwell, friend of the great Atticus Finch, shared his Southern wisdom with me in his last years. His stories taught me valuable lessons that can be applied to your business. Join me now as I share lessons from the bygone days of To Kill a Mockingbird.

You couldn’t help but respect Isaac. Everything he set his hand to, as the saying goes, he did with all his might. He started—a tousle-haired kid about a buck and a quarter soaking wet—as a stock boy at the local general store. The best word to describe Isaac would have been “indispensible.” My great-grandpa, Doc, told me about the focus and determination in his eyes.

Isaac knew a secret: employers are looking for people they can count on to work hard and get the job done with a smile, so he made sure he was that guy. He filled his duties and went above and beyond so consistently, that he became indispensible. He went on in time to become a leading executive in the grocery industry.

There are a lot of jobs to go around in Central Oregon right now, and if you make yourself indispensible, opportunities for upward mobility are always available. There has never been a better time to move to this wonderful place—and it may not be long before finding any job here becomes extremely competitive. We are looking for people like “Indispensible Isaac,” NOW is the time to make your mark!
