Bend’s own MOsley WOtta (MOWO) was recently booked as the musical headliner of Central Oregon’s second annual Press On: Moving Lives Through Cancer event, a fundraising and outreach effort hosted by area physical therapists to benefit Tour des Chutes.
Scheduled for Saturday, September 17, 3-7p.m at Atlas Cider Company (550 SW Industrial Way) in Bend, Press On invites the public to celebrate cancer survivorship with live music, food, drink, a fun run and a silent auction, all while learning about the roles physical therapy and exercise can play in the lives of cancer survivors and those diagnosed with the disease.
MOsley WOtta, the alter ego of Bend artist Jason Graham, will take the stage at 6pm in the parking lot adjacent to Atlas Cider Company. A local performer whose hip-hop sounds are “the kind of effeminate revelry that is rarely seen in so-called hip-hop music – raw, honest and inspired” (music critic Reynold Mathis) and which “transcends boundaries of music, poetry and art” (Oregon Public Broadcasting), MOWO will perform a one-hour set.
“We’re so thrilled to have a performer like MOsley WOtta headline our Press On event,” said Meredith Wampler-Kuhn, PT, DPTSc, a Bend-based oncology physical therapist and lead organizer of Press On. “Not only is he so beloved locally as a performer and artist, but he’s driven by positivity and a level of social consciousness that make him a true role model.”
Local folk, Southern rock and blues band, The Northwest Compromise, will also perform at this year’s Press On event. A three-piece band made up of Mark Keating (vocals/lead guitar), Drew Hopper (rhythm guitar) and Sterling Scott (drums), The Norwest Compromise’s live music set will begin at 4pm.
Free and open to the public, Press On is both a fundraiser and an outreach event supporting Tour des Chutes, which funds local cancer survivorship programs. The event was created in 2015 to recognize that physical exercise is an essential element in improving the quality of living with cancer.
Press On was made possible thanks to the generosity of a number of local sponsors and contributors, including Atlas Cider Company, PT Pub Night, St. Charles Health System, Wells Fargo, Bend Memorial Clinic, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Therapeutic Associates, Vantage Clinical Solutions, Recharge, Humm Kombucha, Immersion Brewing, Strictly Organic, Opportunity Knocks, Alpine Physical Therapy, High Lakes Health Care, Central Oregon Radiation Oncology Associates, Apex Physical Therapy, Step & Spine Physical Therapy, Focus Physical Therapy, Impedimed The Bulletin, Cascade Business News, Combined Communications and BuildPT.
