Ronald and Daniel Hostetler of Dovetails Fine Furniture in Bend offer that their solid wood furniture, crafted to create heirloom quality, is an investment that will last a lifetime.
What is so special about these pieces and why do they last so long? “The answers to these questions give us not only a glimpse into the past, but a view of the present,” says Daniel.
“Our furniture is handmade by our craftsmen from here in Bend to Northern Indiana. To the craftsmen, making furniture it is an art. They build pieces using the same time-honored techniques their grandfathers used. These pieces are not built on an assembly line; each piece is bench-built by craftsmen, signed and dated for posterity.”
What if you have something else in mind? No problem. “If you can dream it, we can build it,” offers Daniel.
Simply bring your idea to them and watch your dream become a reality. The made-to-order furniture is given the same attention to detail as all other pieces. They can custom make bedroom and dining room suites, kitchen cabinets, and office furniture.
Pieces in the showroom can be mixed and matched. For example, you can choose a specific table you like, and then select the style of chair you prefer.
Where else can you find such quality features as solid lumber drawer bottoms, dovetail drawers, mortise and tenon joints, and hand-rubbed linseed and watco oil finishes?
All of the furniture is built from dried, furniture grade lumber. The finest northern hardwoods – oak, cherry, hickory, maple, walnut and quarter sawn white oak- are harvested especially for this furniture. It is important to remember that both heredity and environment affect a tree’s structure and wood grain. Therefore, each piece of furniture is uniquely different from all others. Each type of wood will show its own characteristics of color and graining. Rather than warrant against these natural characteristics, we present them to you as unique traits of solid lumber furniture.
All cherry furniture will mellow or darken with age; therefore, a newly finished piece may be lighter in color than one which has been finished for some time. With time, however, the difference between the two pieces will gradually diminish. Oak, maple, hickory, quarter sawn white oak may also change slightly, especially if placed in direct sunlight.
Every piece of furniture carries with it the pride and craftsmanship of the builder. At Dovetails Furniture, located in Bend, and Amish Traditions Furniture, located in Eugene, you can purchase future heirlooms today.
