Central Oregon Locavore and Cascade Culinary Institute are holding a Meet Your Farmer Dinner on Wednesday, February 1 at 6pm. The featured farmer will be Rainshadow Organics Farm and the featured menu will be “Rooters and Tubers.”
Central Oregon Locavore has been hosting the Meet Your Farmer Dinners over the last year at Common Table, a downtown Bend non-profit restaurant but had to change venues when the restaurant revamped their menu and programs.
“We are excited to be able to have our farmer dinners at CCI’s beautiful new restaurant since it blends perfectly with the program’s philosophy of creating local awareness,” says Nicolle Timm, founder of Central Oregon Locavore an online marketplace for locally produced food and products. “Ninety percent of the food they cook with comes from local sources. We are the perfect partner to help spread the word to the students who run the restaurant, the community who will patronize the event and farmers who are happy to have their products featured in delicious meals.”
Sarahlee Lawrence of Rainshadow Organics, a family run farm on 27 acres located just outside Terrebonne will be at the event to talk about their farming practices while diners will be treated to a meal made from seasonal ingredients. “We are happy to be sharing our practices and bounty at this wonderfully community supported event,” says Lawrence.
Elevation’s Executive Chef and Chef Instructor Thor Erickson explains, “Rooters and Tubers for this menu will be cured and cooked fresh pork and a selection of roasted root vegetables which are in season right now.” He adds, “The students preparing the meal will come away with a new-found sense of where things come from and how best to use it. Our goal is to educate culinary students on the procurement and use of sustainable local ingredients so this is a perfect partnership for us.”
