The filing period opened this week for Council Candidates. The following have filed prospective petitions and have been approved to begin gathering signatures:

The Bend City Council has four positions that will be placed on the ballot for the Nov 2012 election. The Bend City Council is comprised of seven council members who elect the Mayor amongst themselves. Council Members are elected to four-year terms. Individuals winning a seat on the City Council will begin serving January 2013.
Citizens interested in serving on the City Council have until August 28 to file completed petitions.
Four positions will expire at the end of December. Those include Tom Greene, Jeff Eager, Kathie Eckman, and Jim Clinton.
Requirements for Bend City Council election:
The petitioner must file a prospective petition with the City Recorder. Once approved, the petitioner should circulate the petition and gather 150 qualified signatures. When the signatures are gathered, they are verified by the Deschutes County Clerk’s office. After the petition is verified, it becomes a qualified petition and must then be filed with the City of Bend’s City Recorder. To qualify to serve on the City Council, candidates must reside within the city limits of Bend for no less than one year prior to taking office and be a qualified voter.
Expectations for Bend City Council:
Candidates can expect to meet in the Council capacity at least four nights each month.
Persons elected to the City Council are automatically placed on the Bend Urban Renewal Agency Board and serve on the Budget Committee.
