Wellness Festival Highlights Downtown Redmond

On June 30, Redmond will be transformed for the first annual DynaCore Fitness Wellness Festival. Local bands, live performances, vendors and more will take to the downtown blocks in not only a celebration of health and wellness, but to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club of Central Oregon.

DynaCore Fitness owners, Denys and Teresa Middleton, opened their business in January. After the first few months operating in the midst of the recently revitalized Redmond downtown area, they discovered many Central Oregonians were still not aware of the shopping and service opportunities in the merchant district.

After talking to the other downtown businesses, the couple realized Redmond did not have a community-wide event to highlight the downtown merchants, and more importantly, to benefit local charities. “The Boys and Girls Club has an influential and powerful impact on the community,” Denys said. “We wanted them to benefit from the festival; each year we will choose a different charity to help.”

Free admission will give patrons access to the attractions, including performances from The Necktie Killers and Area 52, a performance from the Redmond School of Dance and vendors from all over Central Oregon. The Middletons have already secured over $2,000 worth of raffle and silent auction items and hope for another $5,000 before the event, with all proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Club.

The Rock Chuck Ramble, a 327 yard race described as a short run that even a Rock Chuck could finish, will hold their awards ceremony at the event, and Bouncing Off the Walls will have seven inflatable structures present (even for adults!).

“We are in a recession, people need to feel like we are not,” said Denys. “This will be a fun, positive event and atmosphere to come out and have a good time…It is a wellness festival, but it is not all about how to work out. It is really about hobbies, physical fitness, recreation and general well being.”

The Middletons have been working for two months to put the festival together and have received great support from the City, the Chamber and local businesses.

“Everyone said it was about time to have a festival like this,” commented Denys. “Now we need to get the word out.”

Main event sponsors include Central Oregon CrossFit, Chiropractic Associates and Printing Post. Interested vendors will be accepted until June 23 as well as donations for silent auctions.
