On Saturday, September 14 local chefs will throw down for the title of champion in a “Nacho Ultimate” competition at Locavore, Central Oregon’s local food marketplace and education nonprofit. These chefs will provide their rendition of the world’s best plate of nachos using all local ingredients. Who will take home the crown? You’ll be the judge!
But the real winners of the night will be the children of our community as funds from this event mean another season of Farm Kids—Kids Dig It! and local food youth education programs through Locavore. This program gets kids out of the classroom and onto the farms of Central Oregon where they learn where food really comes from. The program specifically focuses on low-income youth—in some cases these kids have never before been to a place where food grows.
A $25 ticket, available through centraloregonlocavore.com or in the Locavore marketplace on 1st Street, includes one free drink, all you can eat nachos, and an evening of music and dance. We’ll keep the party, and the no-host bar, cranking ‘til the wee hours.
Locavore thanks Tims Chips (which distributes for Juanitas) O-Hana Salsa, Savory Spice Shop, Broken Top Bottle Shop, Eberhards, Redtail Farm, Fields Farm, Juniper Jungle Permaculture Farm, Rathole Brewing, Piggyback Ranch and Oregon Spirit Distillers whose generous contributions provide all the supplies for this event. Clearly, this is nacho ordinary fundraiser. See you there!
