On the heels of the National AFL-CIO Convention, the Oregon AFL-CIO will bring together union members from across the state for their biennial convention later this month at The Riverhouse.
“In Oregon, we’re focused on finding new ways to help more workers,” said Oregon AFL-CIO President Tom Chamberlain. “You’ll see many of the same topics that were debated at the National AFL-CIO Convention take center stage at our statewide Convention.”
In keeping with the Convention’s theme, “The New Face of Labor,” newly organized members of unions and workers who are involved with the Oregon AFL-CIO’s allied community organizations, including workers who do not belong to a union, will be highlighted.
Speakers will include National AFL-CIO officers Liz Shuler and Tefere Gebre (invited), Governor John Kitzhaber, and Senator Jeff Merkley, as well as allied organization leaders Ramon Ramirez and Jeana Frazzini. National Domestic Workers Alliance Director Ai-Jen Poo will be speaking as well.
The Convention will convene with a Welcome Party where the Oregon AFL-CIO Legislator of the Year will be announced on Friday, September 27 at 5:30pm. On Saturday, September 28 after the close of Convention business delegates will join with community members to rally and march for a Strong Voice for Strong Families at 5:30pm. The Convention will adjourn around noon on Sunday, September 29.
