Oregon native Randy Miller, Bend civil litigation attorney, combat veteran, former policeofficer, files his candidacy for Judge of the Deschutes County Circuit Court, 11th District, Position 5.
After graduating from high school Miller volunteered to serve his country as a United States Marine in the intelligence field on a special operations team. Miller earned a Combat Action ribbon and a Navy Unit Commendation for “exceptionally meritorious service” in Kuwait during Operation Desert Storm.
Honorably discharged from the military, Miller served as a police officer. Thereafter, he earned his bachelor of sciencedegree in business management from Linfield College, magna cum laude and was hired by the Les Schwab Tire Company. Miller says his penchant for service influenced his subsequent decision to attend Willamette University College of Law where he earned his Juris Doctor degree. Miller is admitted to practice in Oregon state courts and the United States District Court, District of Oregon.
During law school, Miller was recruited by Schwabe Williamson and Wyatt, one of the largest law firms in the Pacific Northwest. Miller worked in Schwabe’s Bend office until 2012, when he started his own practice. Miller felt compelled to file his candidacy upon the announcement of Judge Haslinger’s retirement from her distinguished service on the bench. Miller said, “As a local lawyer, becoming a Deschutes County Circuit Court judge is the most honorable, sincere and meaningful way I may continue serving my community.
I am humbled by the prospect of this responsibility, and the duty to provide a fair and impartial judicial process, without regard for outside influence, public opinion, or preference for one policy over another. I know from experience that I’m at my best when entrusted by others to perform in this way.”Miller says his diverse background will help resolve matters before the court, whether criminal, civil or domestic.
As a local police officer and graduate of Oregon’s Board of Public Safety Standards and Training, Miller has experience working on criminal matters and with crime victims.Miller brings a breadth of civil experience working for and successfully representing businesses and individuals in commercial, construction, real estate, land use and individual rights matters at mediation, arbitration and trial.
Miller earned his domestic relations experience firsthand as a police officer, and as a lawyer in his litigation practice where he works to find creative solutions with an eye towards preserving family relationships. Miller acknowledges “domestic relations matters are unique and present divisive emotional issues uncommon to othermatters.”Miller married his high school sweetheart, an experienced registered nurse serving Central Oregon in a neonatal intensive care unit helping high-risk infants and their families.
They enjoy two teenage daughters attending public high school, and their Labrador retriever Libby. Miller was the 2013 president of Central Oregon Builder’s Association, past director for the nationally recognized non-profit Crystal Peaks YouthRanch and is a Bend Chamber of Commerce “Leadership Bend” graduate. Cascade Business News recognized Miller for his accomplishments in 2009 as a 40 & Under Accomplished Winner.
