AAUW hosts Central Oregon based speaker and author, Enes Smith April 19 in Touchmark’s Terrace Lodge. He will preview his highly sought after presentation The One Minute Lie Detector. With a Masters of Science in Criminal Administration, Smith trains a variety of business employees in the art of nonverbal cues to deception.
He is a frequent keynote speaker at regional and national events, and has been a panelist at The Bouchercon – World Mystery Convention. He has been a college instructor and adjunct professor, teaching a vast array of courses including criminology, sociology, social deviance, race, class and ethnicity. During Smith’s police career he worked as a homicide detective, patrol officer, sergeant, SWAT supervisor and commander, coordinator of a federally funded drug team and a police chief. He teaches interviewing and interrogation to police officers, and gives training seminars on encouraging truthful behavior.
Smith’s work as a tribal police chief for the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Indians of Oregon led to his latest series of suspense novels, set on modern day reservations. The thriller Cold River Rising is currently in production for a major motion picture. The next book in the series is Cold River Resurrection.
Smith relied upon his experience as a homicide detective to write his first novel, Fatal Flowers. Crime author Ann Rule wrote, “Fatal Flowers is a chillingly authentic look into the blackest depths of a psychopath’s fantasies. Not for the fainthearted, Smith is a cop who’s been there and a writer on his way straight up. Read this on a night when you don’t need to sleep, you won’t.” Fatal Flowers was followed by Dear Departed. Ernes Smith will offer a book signing.
Cost for attending this presentation is $13 and includes a light brunch. Call Mary Howard by April 15 at 541-322-6271 to make your reservation.
