After one year of operating a consumer rewards program titled BottleDropPLUS that provides consumers with a 20 percent bonus on their Oregon bottle bill deposit refunds, the Northwest Grocery Association (NWGA) announced the program will become permanent and will expand from 24 stores to 44 stores effective immediately with three additional locations being added by July 1.
BottleDropPLUS is operated in conjunction with the BottleDrop redemption center network. BottleDrop operates 12 redemption centers located in Northeast Portland (122nd Ave. and Glisan), North Portland at Delta Park, Wood Village, Gresham, Oregon City, Salem (Lancaster and South Commercial), Eugene, Redmond, Bend, Medford and Klamath Falls.
BottleDrop Redemption Centers offer a beverage container drop-off service for consumers who do not want to use the self-service machines when redeeming their Oregon Bottle Bill beverage containers. The service allows consumers to put their bottles and cans in specially marked bags holding approximately 80 containers per bag and drop the bags at a BottleDrop redemption center for counting. The amount of the deposit refund is then put onto the consumer’s BottleDrop account that can be accessed at a later time at any BottleDrop center or participating grocer.
BottleDropPLUS allows consumers to exchange their cash value of five (5) cents per container, for a grocery store credit that has a value of six (6) cents per container. This boosts the consumer’s refund by 20 percent and can be used for most items in the store including fuel at Fred Meyers and Albertsons /Safeway.
Consumers access the BottleDropPLUS credit via a computer kiosk located in each participating grocery store by simply using their BottleDrop account card and choosing how much they wish to exchange for the higher value store credit. The kiosk prints a store credit that is used by the consumer at the time of check out in the same manner as a coupon. BottleDrop customers receive their monthly balances via email and always retain the option to redeem their account balance for cash.
