Prineville Crook County, Oregon Busy Developing Services for Increasing Numbers of Visitors & Recreationalists

Prineville, in the Heart of Crook County, has always been somewhat of a well-kept secret as far as recreational opportunities. But more and more visitors are discovering the hidden gems of the area all the time. As more visitors discover the area, the local government and community organizations are working well together to improve the services and attractions that serve these visitors.

Prineville is a beautiful and vibrant community. The streets are lined with a nice selection of restaurants and shops. The historic courthouse is a grand icon of the history of Crook County, and a newly improved museum and annex offers visitors a detailed look into the region’s past. Combined with a wide variety of lodging options, these attributes make the community very attractive to visitors from all over.

Crook County already offers world class fly fishing, water recreation, hiking, cycling, horseback riding and flat water recreation. Prineville reservoir is one of the top water recreation reservoirs in the state.

But recently the area is also developing a reputation as cycling destination. The area offers a variety of cycling opportunities in close proximity that is somewhat unique. Within a short distance of Prineville there are many miles of open road will suited for cycling, a wide spectrum of mountain biking trails and many miles of gravel roads ideal for the newer cycling trend of gravel riding.

Organizations like Central Oregon Trail Alliance, the Prineville Crook County Chamber of Commerce, City of Prineville and Crook County government are working with local businesses and other organizations to add cycling routes, visitor kiosks, mountain biking trails and a bike park. The bike park is slated to include obstacles and a pump track. Over 60 miles of additional cycling and multi-use trails are currently under development in the County.

Tourism provides a welcome economic boost to the picturesque community. Officials and organizations within Crook County are hard at work ensuring visitors have a positive experience when visiting the area.
