On July 7, State Representatives Daniel Nguyen and Shelly Boshart Davis announced the formation of the bipartisan Trade Caucus within the Oregon Legislature. The Legislative Trade Caucus will bring together lawmakers from both parties with a shared interest in trade, business development, and international economic policy.
“I have seen firsthand the opportunities and challenges facing Oregon businesses in the international marketplace,” said Rep. Daniel Nguyen (D-Lake Oswego & SW Portland), Chair of the House Committee on Economic Development, Small Business and Trade. “This caucus will serve as a forum for legislators to collaborate on pragmatic solutions that expand market access, reduce barriers, and promote Oregon’s exporters, importers, and innovators.”
“Oregon’s rural and urban communities alike depend on robust trade policies to create jobs and drive economic growth,” said Rep. Shelly Boshart Davis (R-Albany), Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Transportation. “I’ve spent years in international trade and exports in Oregon, so I know there is a lot we can do to advocate for fair and effective trade practices that benefit businesses of all sizes and workers across multiple industries in our state.”
The Oregon Legislative Trade Caucus will provide a platform to:
- Advocate for policies that enhance Oregon’s competitiveness in global markets
- Support Oregon businesses seeking to expand internationally
- Attract and retain international investment in Oregon
- Address supply chain challenges and regulatory barriers
- Facilitate dialogue between local, state and federal agencies, industry leaders and partners
- Promote transparency and fairness in trade agreements
Modeled after successful legislative caucuses in other states and at the federal level, the Oregon Legislative Trade Caucus aims to be a resource for information, advocacy, and bipartisan action on issues critical to the state’s economic future.
