Five-point plan aimed at helping small businesses and encouraging tech sector growth.
State representative candidate Knute Buehler (R-HD54/Bend) released a five-point plan for helping local businesses create jobs and grow Bend’s economy. Buehler also announced key endorsements from business groups and a coalition of local business and technology leaders supporting his candidacy.
“Although Bend was hit hard by the recession and recovery has been slow, I’m optimistic about our future. I’ll work for policies that support small business, grow our technology sector and strengthen education – all essential ingredients for a strong economy,” said Buehler.
Buehler is a physician and small business owner. He helped build The Center, a patient-focused orthopedic and neurosurgery care facility in Bend that includes 34 medical providers and 180 employees. Buehler says he developed his economic development plan by drawing on ideas and insights from other local business and technology leaders.
“Knute gets what it takes to build a business in Bend, and with his deep roots in this community, he understands what we need to grow. He’ll fight to protect small businesses and for smart policies that will foster our emerging tech sector,” said Amy Tykeson, former CEO of BendBroadband.
Working with the Bend Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO), the Tech Alliance and others, Buehler says he’ll reach out to members of both parties in the Oregon House to:
Connect local high schools and colleges to the tech industry to develop custom curricula to ensure graduates can compete for future jobs Advocate for higher education, including the OSU-Cascades expansion Promote innovation and research by expanding Oregon’s research and development tax credit Fight new taxes and regulations that cost jobs and raise prices Support small business grant and development programs
