Sunriver Resort, a premier golf destination in the Pacific Northwest managed by CoralTree Hospitality with 63-holes of golf across four award-winning courses, is building a true home for adaptive golf in Central Oregon with a series of clinics ahead of next year’s Adaptive Open Championship. Through its partnership with Oregon Adaptive Sports (OAS), a full schedule of community programming and thoughtful, deliberate course enhancements to its Meadows course, Sunriver Resort is committed to creating a welcoming and accessible golf experience for all players as it prepares to host the 2027 and 2028 U.S. Adaptive Open Championship.
This summer, Sunriver Resort is co-hosting a series of community golf clinics in partnership with OAS, U.S. Adaptive Golf Alliance and the Adaptive Golf Academy to expand and enhance adaptive golf opportunities in Central Oregon. The series kicked off this month with a community event on June 2 to celebrate the launch of the golf season. The clinics continue throughout the summer with four community golf sessions scheduled over the next three months. These free clinics bring together adaptive golf coaches, OAS athletes and community members for an inclusive afternoon focused on instruction, connection and access to the game. Individuals with physical, cognitive and sensory disabilities are all welcome to attend to connect with adaptive golf coaches, build skills and learn the core elements of the game in a fun and supportive environment.
Clinics are scheduled for June 30, July 28, August 25 and September 22 from 1:30-5:30pm at the Meadows Course at Sunriver Resort. Athletes and community members who are interested in participating can register online through this link.
As part of its commitment to hosting adaptive golf clinics, Sunriver Resort’s golf professionals are participating in adaptive golf instruction training so they are prepared to lead these clinics and support participants. Josh Willis, Vice President of Operations for Sunriver Resort, is championing this effort to train the next generation of adaptive golf instructors by welcoming PGA Professionals from Central Oregon and throughout the Pacific Northwest to Sunriver to participate in this specialized training.
“Sunriver Resort has always been a place where guests can connect with nature and with one another through the game of golf,” said Willis. “That connection is even more meaningful when it’s accessible to everyone, which is why our partnership with both the United States Golf Association and Oregon Adaptive Sports is so important.”
The resort’s golf staff is committed to building its expertise to serve the Central Oregon community for years to come, and this commitment extends to the golf course too.
Accessibility-focused course preparation at the Meadows Course is already underway. That work includes the addition of new tees, making bunkers more accessible for cart-assisted players, using firmer sand in the bunkers and adjusting maintenance of the native fescues on the face of each bunker. Accessibility is top of mind for the resort’s agronomy team as it works closely with the USGA to improve access for adaptive golfers.
“It’s an honor to have been selected to host the 2027 and 2028 U.S. Adaptive Open,” added Willis. “We have also expanded our partnership with OAS, offering complimentary monthly adaptive golf clinics. These incredible partnerships will increase awareness and exposure around adaptive golf, instruction and course accessibility. Together, we’re creating opportunities for adaptive golfers to experience both the beauty of this region and the joy of the game.”
“Oregon Adaptive Sports is deeply grateful for Sunriver Resort’s commitment to making adaptive golf a cornerstone of what they do,” said Pat Addabbo, executive director of Oregon Adaptive Sports. “This partnership is a powerful step toward fulfilling our shared vision of making Central Oregon a premier destination for adaptive golf in the United States.”
