Summer at the High Desert Museum is packed with opportunities to connect with the wildlife of the High Desert. Included with admission, our daily schedule features engaging talks and up-close animal encounters throughout the day.
Meet one (or more!) of the Museum’s ambassador mammals during Desert Dwellers, discover how river otters help keep waterways healthy at the Otter Encounter, and come face-to-face with a magnificent raptor during the Bird of Prey Encounter.
Looking for even more excitement? Experience the awe-inspiring Raptors of the Desert Sky flight program, where hawks, owls, falcons and other birds soar overhead in the Museum’s natural amphitheater. Raptors of the Desert Sky requires a separate ticket.

Experience the Power of the Sawmill on June 21
Step into the sights, sounds and stories of the High Desert’s timber industry during a live demonstration of the Museum’s historic Lazinka Sawmill on Sunday, June 21. Watch as skilled volunteers bring the massive machine to life, transforming logs into lumber while sharing how sawmills helped shape communities across the region.
This popular living history experience only happens three times during the summer. Save the date, make your plans, and we’ll see you at the sawmill!
