Construction workers drove in their last nail, decorators hung their last picture on the walls, all certificates and permits have finally arrived and residents are starting to move into Country Side Living, a new Memory Care Community in Redmond.

Owner Erik Berkey said, “There was so much involved in getting the final details in place but we are so thankful to be able to invite the first residents to their new homes in Country Side Living before Christmas. We have a waiting list of people who have followed our progress and who have had their loved ones’ bags packed waiting for the call that they can now move!”

Currently there are 5.3 million people in the US with Alzheimer’s and that number is projected to grow to 15 million by 2050. In Oregon there are over 60,000 with an expected 84,000 with Alzheimer’s by 2025. One in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or other dementia, it’s the sixth leading cause of death in the US, and it’s the only cause of death in the top 10 in America that can’t be prevented, cured or slowed down, the Alzheimer’s Association says. The problem will only continue to affect countless lives as 78 million Baby Boomers become at risk for developing Alzheimer’s or other dementia as they age.

Rather than ignore this growing threat, Erik Berkey decided to create an Intergenerational Memory Care Community located at 1350 NW Canal Blvd. in Redmond consisting of Country Side Living, a 35 bed community for people living with Alzheimer’s or other dementia as well as Thelma’s Place, a nonprofit Day Respite for seniors, and Whoopsy Daisy Child Center.

Country Side Living with room for 35 residents has a “homey” feel with lots of windows,a giant fireplace, high ceilings and walking paths around a 10,000 sq. ft. back yard. The staff offer kind, loving care with dignity and respect.

Thelma’s Place,a day respite center, is the first of its kind in Deschutes County. Twenty seniors will be involved in daily activities while their caregivers take a much needed break. Call Stephanie Roderick at 503-209-6827 for a tour.

Whoopsy Daisy Child Center is a very important part of the Intergenerational Memory Care project developed by Berkey, providing opportunities throughout the day for children and seniors to interact. The opening date for Whoopsy Daisy is set for February 1, 2016.

“My passion has been to bring this state of the art Memory Care Community to Central Oregon where people can bring their loved one to receive the kind of loving care they’d give in their own home if they were able to. It’s now a reality!” says Berkey.
